FAQ's
We would recommend a vinyl plank or tile floor. The durability of this modern technology is par none.
We would first need to know if you have what’s considered a “wet” basement. We highly recommend any waterproof flooring such as vinyl offers- sheet vinyl, click or glue down. If it’s not a “wet” basement, carpet is a great option.
It depends on the type of floor you choose for your basement. Most flooring, these days, come with the underlay already attached. We would not recommend adding an additional underlay because the added cushion can compromise the click system used to assemble the floors if you go with a click floor. If you decide to go with a cork backed floor, we recommend a moisture resistant layer such as poly or a foam layer for laminates.
Other things to consider when choosing between having underpads or flooring underlayment installed depends on the floor type and the type of heating system you have. Underpads are installed under carpet flooring material, whereas underlays are installed under smoother floorings. Prior to choosing, you should consider the density, moisture barrier (if there is one), odour control and thickness in either the padding or underlay. This is based on the quality of your carpet or flooring, the expected foot traffic and the area of the house it will be installed in.

Cork flooring has also come a long way. Although it’s been around for centuries, it has taken on many modern features and become more affordable as of late. It is the most sustainable and renewable flooring available with zero off gassing. With tile glue down options, as well as click planks with digital wood grain prints or the natural cork look, it’s a real step in the right direction!
